Volunteer Packet (pdf)After School Program Volunteer
Volunteers would assist children with homework and help staff with other activities as needed. Opportunity to help children focus on academic enrichment and recreational opportunities. The Salvation Army BLAST(Bright Learners After School Team) program is part of a licensed facility, serving 24 middle school age children residing on site in our housing program.
Skills Needed: Basic math-reading & recreational skills: Understanding of elementary education is required. Creative, interactive, artistic skills are a plus. Background in leading team activities is helpful.
Emergency Shelter Volunteer
The Salvation Army-Zahn Emergency Shelter for families is located near the Staples Center in Los Angeles. This is a 16 room shelter that provides temporary shelter, meals, case management and related services to homeless families.
We are looking for caring, committed volunteers to assist staff with adminstrative duties as assigned. Knowledge of issues related to homelessness is helpful. The shifts available vary since its a 24 hour facility, which includes weekends.
Training and orientation will be available to all interested applicants.
Skills Needed: Answer phones, dependable, reliable: Good communication skills, basic computer knowledge, adhere to workplace policies & boundaries with clients/staff on duty.
Group Volunteers
Alegria hosts volunteer groups on a regular basis. From hosting special events to helping with cleaning and landscaping, volunteer groups can make a difference to the families we serve. Due to the important steps we take to schedule groups, Alegria requires a minimum of 30 days notice for any requests.
